datcatwhatcameback:

I know I already made a “where you can find Skoon” post but… I wanted to take advantage of tumblr’s unique format one last time.

Go out the way I came in… with utter nonsense.

Here are the sites I definitely use:

FURAFFINITY (Most active)

INKBUNNY (Has cub and foalcon, but you can block it)

DEVIANTART (Does not allow males generally)

PATREON (Money is involved, I am poor; but there are perks!)

Here are the sites I MAY decide to use for my art in the future:

NEWGROUNDS (nothing posted yet)

TWITTER (currently a parody account, don’t bet on this one for the time being)

I might join some other sites like Inkedfur or whatever in the future as well, but this is where I hang aside from tumblr.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the good times I’ve had on tumblr. There were bad times, but they pale in comparison to the positive experiences. My life would be even worse without the friends and fans I’ve collected here on this platform, and throughout the brony and furry communities. I hope to see you all on the flip side!

Also, Merry Celestimas!

Hugs and whatnot-

Skoon

All, we’ve heard from a bunch of you who are concerned about Tumblr censoring NSFW/adult content. While there seems to be a lot of misinformation flying around, most of the confusion seems to stem from our complicated flagging/filtering features. Let me clear up (and fix) a few things:

1. Last year, we added “Safe Mode” which lets you filter out NSFW content from tag and search pages. This is enabled by default for new users and can be toggled in your Dashboard Settings. As some of you have pointed out, disabling Safe Mode still wasn’t allowing search results from all blogs to appear. This has been fixed.

2. Some search terms are blocked (returning no results) in some of our mobile apps. Unfortunately, different app environments have different requirements that we do our best to adhere to. The reason you see innocent tags like #gay being blocked on certain platforms is that they are still frequently returning adult content which our entire app was close to being banned for. The solution is more intelligent filtering which our team is working diligently on. We’ll get there soon. In the meantime, you can browse #lgbtq — which is moderated by our community editors — in all of Tumblr’s mobile apps. You can also see unfiltered search results on tumblr.com using your mobile web browser.

3. Earlier this year, in an effort to discourage some not-so-nice people from using Tumblr as free hosting for spammy commercial porn sites, we started delisting this tiny subset of blogs from search engines like Google. This was never intended to be an opt-in flag, but for some reason could be enabled after checking off NSFW → Adult in your blog settings. This was confusing and unnecessary, so we’ve dropped the extra option. If your blog contains anything too sexy for the average workplace, simply check “Flag this blog as NSFW” so people in Safe Mode can avoid it. Your blog will still be promoted in third-party search engines.

Aside from these fixes, there haven’t been any recent changes to Tumblr’s treatment of NSFW content, and our view on the topic hasn’t changed. Empowering your creative expression is the most important thing in the world to us. Making sure people aren’t surprised by content they find offensive is also incredibly important and we are always working to put more control in your hands.

Sorry for all of the confusion. If you have any more concerns or suggestions on how we can make these features clearer or more useful, please email us!

THE YEAR IS 2013

This was Tumblr Staff’s response to a Change.org 20,000 signature petition in 2013 to stop exactly what’s going on right now. Tumblr Staff, with David Karp at the head, clarified these things and put these guidelines into place to ensure that the site would remain safe and they would continue to allow NSFW content.

image

Cut to 5 years later we have literally 10 times as many people signing a petition right now in less than ¼th the amount of time for the exact same reason

image

Tumblr, we made this clear before and now 10 times as many people are making it clear again: You’re handling this in the wrong way.

You should be focusing on improving features like Safe Mode, the tagging system, blacklisting, whitelisting, filtering, blocking, reporting, etc.

Rather than deciding that destroying the foundation you’ve built and garnered for 11 years as a place where NSFW artists can easily get their work out there.

And would you look at that, this post itself has like a million notes.

My Prediction of the Future of Tumblr

lil-mizz-jay:

BOY YOU BEST REBLOG THIS SHIT WHEN IT HAPPENS.

BECAUSE IT WILL.

Dec 17rd: The new adult content ban goes into effect. Over a million users leave the website in exodus to find other websites.

Months pass.

Verizon starts to notice that they’ve lost TONS of profits from ad revenues on their website because so many users left.

More months pass.

The announcement happens.

TUMBLR PREMIUM

– Pay monthly for Tumblr for bonus perks!
– 10-picture per image set increased to 100 for Premium users!
– New post types! Galleries!
– New themes!
– New fonts!
– No more ads!
– No more size restrictions on image or audio or video posts!
– All for 10 bucks a month!

Months pass again.

Tumblr Premium is not as popular as they thought it would be.

“Wait!” says Fuckstick McGee, Head Shitty Idea Guy of Verizon, “I HAVE AN IDEA!”

ANNOUNCEMENT: Tumblr Premium users can now view and post NSFW content!

– lil-mizz-jay comes back and gladly pays because Jay is a sheep
– Every other person who has half a mind just glares at Tumblr

Another one of those months pass.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Verizon is pulling the plug on Tumblr.

Have you joined pillowfort? Why or why not?

I personally don’t have a Pillowfort account yet, but my partner does and she has let me look at her account fully to see what it is like. I’ve also viewed Pillowfort’s demo account which is linked to on their Kickstarter. I am waiting with anticipation when I can make my own account, but right now Pillowfort is in a closed beta which means the only people who have access to the site are ones who have been given special registration links. They were doing waves of free beta accounts a bit ago (which is how my partner got her account), but right now for every $5 you pledge to their Kickstarter you will receive a registration key if the Kickstarter gets fully funded (they are as of today 40% of the way to their $39,900 goal).

Here is why I’m excited for Pillowfort:

  • If you delete your original posts, every reblogged version will be deleted tooEdit your original post and the changes will appear on every reblog,
  • The ability to make posts visible to everyone, just followers, just mutuals, or just yourself.
  • A functional blacklist where you can blacklist a post body & tags or just tags.
  • A terms of service that explicitly states you hold all rights to your own intellectual property. It also states clearly that it forbids callout posts, doxxing, degradation, harassing, hate groups, spamming of tags with unrelated or offensive material, and slurs against minorities. If there is a user that is doing anything offensive or hateful, it is encouraged and mandated you don’t make posts about it and instead flag it and let the site moderators take care of it. This sort of system cuts down on “dashboard drama” and harassment that sites like Tumblr are known for.
  • They have threaded comments which means discussions or praise no longer clog up your posts and your blog, keeping things much more organized and clean. We can also use tags for their ACTUAL purpose, tagging of posts for ease of search and organization instead of talking.
  • They have communities and a more connected user-based and user-led environment.
  • Posts in chronological order like they should be!
  • A staff that actually cares about the input of their members and is driven to listen and collaborate with their members to create a site that the users actually want instead of being led by a corporation that has their own agendas in mind.
  • A staff that wants to avoid corporate involvement, unwanted ads, and selling of user info to fund Pillowfort.
  • The future possibilities of what the staff can do with the site that we didn’t dream could be possible to have all in one place including accessibility and a functional mobile app.

So far, I’ve seen a lot of good things and I’ve been really impressed with how the staff is handling the site and how they have explained their plans for the future of Pillowfort.

If you say you really want a social media site that actually cares about their users, this is it. This is your chance to have what pretty much all of us want. This new blogging platform is all the best parts of Tumblr (and for those who miss Livejournal this is like a wedding between Tumblr and Livejournal) with all the parts we hate and loathe about the site scraped out of it.

If you like everything that you’ve read about Pillowfort.io, please pledge to their Kickstarter. Even $5 can help and it will get you a registration link to get on Pillowfort yourself if the Kickstarter gets fully funded.

If you can’t support Pillowfort monetarily, then please, please reblog, tweet, share, and spread it about everywhere you can.

This is our chance to have a social media made with us in mind and it’s already starting out so well with 10,000 users in the closed beta. Let’s bring it to the next stage of its life!

More on pillowfort. @craftssakura – you could shoot them ( @pillowfort-io ) an ask re: accepting $$$ from outside the US

hmmm this seems interesting

Definitely moving here once it’s up and running
